Another guest review for Bathing Beauty's Blog!

The first time my smell receptors were subject to “I Love Carottes” – fromHonore Des Pres’ ‘I Love NY’ line – they were quite impressed (I asked them myself).

Unlike your typical Marc Jacobs Daisy, for example, it isn’t a full on floral scent. It isn’t 100% musk either… a la Elizabeth Arden Red Door (*shudder*). In fact, it is rather… well… carroty. Yes, carroty.

Now I know that sounds odd, but the scent is so fresh, different and alluring, I can’t help but spray more!

This is what Olivia Giacobetti, the creator of the I Love NY line, had to say about I Love Carottes:

“… It is inspired by wild nights in New York City that spill over into sunny winter days that are filled with time spent admiring the natural beauty of Central Park.

Carrots from organic farmers in Harlem [were] combined them with the delicate scent of the Carrot Flower. I have come up with my own, more relateable, description of the scent:

I bought this top for $4.00 from a small flea market event.

It has to be one of the best $4.00 ever spent. It cost even less than the real deal sushi meal, and it lasts way longer too!

The number of comments I get when I wear this shirt is ri-dicky-donk... I don't know how many are genuine or legit, but I don't care because all that matters is it got people's attention.

The Bird is the Word

This weekend I attended yet another vintage market, this time at one of my favourite little hangs.

My friends Di and Michael had set up a stall at The Bird's swapmeet event and as per usual, I was there to provide ~~moral~~ support. The Bird is easily one of the coolest places to chillax and have a drink, with it's exposed brick walls, mismatched couches and chairs and dingy yet cosy interior... making it the greatest place to hold a mid day swapmeet/sausage sizzle/beer.

I had so much fun suitcase sitting, playing dress ups and meeting new people, I forgot that we were there to sell! In all fairness, I think most stall holders were having too much fun doing the same

Oh, and I had to share a photo of my dear friend Di from the markets - she is one of the most stylish lasses I know. Just look at that dress sense! Her sister Viv is pretty up there too.

Double Awesome

So this has to be one of the greatest outfit posts I have done - purely because of the cheese factor. It is not a double denim outfit, but a double awesome outfit.

My friend Di and I ended up at a barbecue in an alleyway, behind some clothing stores in Northbridge, with a bunch of store owners. The owner of one of these clothing stores could not contain his excitement at the fact that he had found the perfect match for his beloved shirt - my ASOS leggings. I was pretty chuffed at the result I must say.

Now that uni is well and truly over, I have been getting on with life and enjoying the heck out of it.

I have been eyeing off the most gorgeous pair of vintage American Flag shorts in a noted vintage store in Perth for a while now. Only problem being, they were 2 sizes too large and were priced at $80.00. I was devastated, because for some strange reason I had my heart set on them. The lady at the store tried guilt tripping me by telling me that they were one of a kind and so rare in Australia blah blah blah - so that made me feel even worse for not buying them.

Funny how I found an identical pair for $20.00 in a chain store. It made me SO glad that I didn't cave to the store assistant's pestering!

I wore this little get up to my FINAL EXAM EVER today. Yes, that is right - FINAL EXAM EVER. I have officially completed my university degree and I couldn't be happier! Here is to working full time and enjoying life without the worry of study. Anyway, I wore these babies to my exam and I had a number of friends message me telling me that they saw me walking into the exam room - I blame the shorts. They definitely make a little statement and I love it!

Jess is 22, born in Hong Kong, raised in Australia and currently a design student at the College of Fine Arts at the University of NSW.

Her cutesy illustrations are slightly anime, but a style that she calls 'alien'.

I have always had a soft spot for sketchy, watercolour illustrations (think Birdy and Me) and I plan to decorate my new home with plenty of them. Hopefully one of J-b0x designs ends up on my walls!

The Hipster Life

These photos of the last week or two got me thinking about what has transpired in the last little chunk of time. There has been lots of working, seeing friends, heading out and general chilling. I have met a lot of new people and conversed with so many.

I have had this conversation many MANY times with friends of late - We were trying to answer the question "what in the world is a hipster?"

Ok, so I know what the general definition of a hipster is per sae, but how do you classify one?

I wore a hat out the other day, and the hipster comments came flying. Are you a hipster if you take polaroid photos... or wear a t-shirt with a different print... or wear loafers? What about if you do all of them together?

I saw a 'popular' (I use that term loosely) magazine try to write a guide on how to be hipster the other day and it made me cringe in my shoes. How are you supposed to give someone a guide on that?!

Our general conclusion was "you cannot put people into a category".

That sounds pretty self explanatory really.

The moral of this story was that I don't think you can define someone by a predetermined stereotype of their dress code. The way you dress is a representation of your personality, your interests and what you care about. Imagine calling someone an emo just because they dyed their hair black or just because they like heavy metal. It is absurd!

Little School Girl

Every now and then you just feel like being a complete little girl. Today was one of those days.

Little dress, black brogues and a short little bike-ride on my new old blue bike that I finally got back from being fixed. Bless my ex and his love for bikes - it comes in handy! There is nothing quite like throwing on a cute little vintage dress and going for a ride in the sun. Having my bike back has reignited my excitement for summer - rides to the pub, to my friends porch and around the lake in my suburb. Oh boy!

Birthday Bunt, Beers and Grey Skies

After a weekend full of sun, beer, birthday bunt, jenga, nando's and porch sitting/porch piano playing, I was completely shocked to wake up to the sound of constant drizzle outside my window. Where did our 35 degree weather go? At least the weather held out until the working week started I guess!

Speaking of the working week, I am now a professional working girl, YAY! It isn't as hard and horrible as a lot of friends made it out to be - but I think it is because I have the best job and best bosses out.

I have mentioned on here before how much I love the fact I can wear whatever I please to work. Above is exhibit 'A' of 'wearing whatever I please to work'. Sometimes I like to be comfortable and casual, sometimes I like to really dress up, and sometimes I like to be somewhere in between. I guess this outfit is somewhere in between.

... Not really - I am still scared to be eyeballed while having photos taken. I just had a particular song stuck in my head so that became the title. Indeed, I am chilling at my house in these photo's once again.

I have been keeping myself very busy all week (which would explain the few days between posts). Some would say it was an attempt to try and keep my mind off things. I have been to dinner at the Burswood again - Modo Mio to be exact, of which I wasn't too fond of - watched a free gig on Monday night, attended a friend's birthday party, spent a night watching trashy tv in bed, and another night at what seems to be the halfway house for the entire population of Perth (My friend and ex-boyfriends house). This outfit accompanied me to dinner with my family friend at the Burswood. If I had have known that my visit would have eventuated into dinner, then I may have put more effort in. To tell you the truth though, the restaurant is in the Perth Casino complex... there are people carting around oxygen machines in the casino itself, or wearing their khaki's to the noodle bar, so I guess I wasn't faring so badly in this outfit.

The absence of uni seems to be doing wonders for me. I am happier in a sense, and have more time to enjoy life/put my heart and soul into my job. I have started a semi-full time (is that even possible?!) role at work and I couldn't be happier. Everyone I talk to has to put up with my bragging about being a "working woman" now. It is honestly the greatest thing ever though. Even my male friends are envious of my job. So they should be. Here is to exciting changes in my life!

Release the Hounds

I have been pulling this skirt out a fair bit lately. It is perfect for the warmish weather - it isn't too cold, or too hot to wear. As for the top, I haven't pulled this baby out in a long time. I don't know why I haven't worn it lately, because I absolutely adore it! It cost me all of about $4.00 from some little op-shop in Bunbury back when I was 15 or so. I was so proud when I found it.

On another note... I have been a ball of emotions this week - some good, some bad. So many major changes have been occurring and it is all becoming so real now!

- Uni is officially over in just over 24 hours (well I will have 2 exams but lets not count those). Words cannot explain the relief it will bring!

- In 11 weeks I will be off to Europe for 5 weeks. I am in the midst of planning with my brother and one of my best friends. It is going to be SO good to see him again!

- Just before Christmas, I will be in Sydney for a week for work. Exciting times ahead!

- There is a lot of heartbreak going on at the moment. I had to say goodbye to my boyfriend.

- I am finding even more new and awesome friends, and running into so many people I used to hang around with in Bunbury.

I keep saying it, I was finally happy with all of the people in my life, and now I have to say goodbye to them all... well I have already had to start doing so (starting with my boyfriend). Thank God interstate travel is as easy as 1, 2, 3, and staying in contact with people is as easy as ever with all the technology nowadays!

One of My Kind

I have been involved in vintage shopping/selling/markets a fair bit of late. In fact, I helped out at a vintage market just today. It is kind of something that I fell into with friends. I have always loved the thrill of finding a gem in the op shops, but I had never really been on the selling side of it. I can remember being in year 10 (all the way back in 2005 eeek!) and spending my weekends trawling the Red Cross in town. I always managed to find a bargain, but I have never really had the knack for finding enough to curate a vintage collection. It intrigues me to find out where sellers find their items, how they choose what items to sell, and all the other goodies that come with being a vintage seller.

It was this curiosity (and the recent black and white embroidered purchase!) that got me talking to Net from One of My Kind Vintage. Net is based in Melbourne and has had her vintage store since mid 2010. It was so interesting to hear what she had to say about the whole vintage selling experience!

What first drew you to vintage fashion?

Originality: I remembered when the maxi skirt trend was making its way back. I would stroll around shopping malls and fashion boutiques to get a hand on just one maxi skirt, but at that time all stores were still stocking the body con skirts. The next day I made my way down to my local op shop and there you go, maxi skirts from plain to print.

Many famous designers agree that fashion is about trend recycling. If that is the case, vintage clothing stores are the first place you should go looking when a new trend emerges.

Uniqueness and Variety: Now that many fashion labels often offer similar things based on the same trends and looks, vintage can be a way out for people who want something different.

Regret free: Women often purchase things that they only wear once or hardly touch. With vintage the guilt is a lot less, the price is better, the majority of the time the money spent goes to charity (most vintage clothing in my store are purchased from charity op shop) and the depreciation is a lot lower, which means you can resell for a similar price or sometimes even more that what it cost you.

What is your favorite era when it comes to vintage fashion?

- SWINGING SIXTIES!! – I think it’s the era that I would love to be reborn in. I love Twiggy, Mary Quant, Mod, Monochrome, Thick eyeliner etc.. But I think it’s best to update vintage fashions with modern look!!

What do you look out for in a vintage item of clothing? How do you know you are onto a winner?

- Unique and unusual details that only can be found in couture or high end label nowadays.

- Really wearable and doesn’t look like a costume.

- A winner piece must have all these elements; unique details, wearable, versatile and can be worn with current trend pieces that you might already have in your wardrobe.

Name your 3 favorite items of clothing:

- Cheap Monday high wasted jeans.

- High wasted dark denim shorts (worn in almost every pictures in my store)

- Vintage pussy bow tie blouse

Best vintage buy?

- A cut out lace Brogue I purchased in Thailand. It was sold early this year to the Accessories Director of Michael Kors. I realised this when I was writing the address on the satchel before I posted the item and I e-mailed him later on to see if my suspicions were right. He replied “don’t be surprised if I see something similar from Michael Kors' next collection”!!!

- I hope to start my own vintage inspired clothing label selling alongside my vintage collection.

Would you believe that I still get all embarrassed and jittery about having my photo taken?

That is why the majority of the photos I have are not in a public place - I get all clammy thinking about people staring at me having a photo taken.

Lame, I know.

The moral of the story is, I only have 3 rather average images of this outfit (but I still wanted to share) because while the photos were being taken, my neighbours came out of the house and wouldn't go back inside. I am sure they were just gardening or something, but I couldn't stand the thought of them being nosy and wondering what in the world I was having my photos taken for.

p.s. excuse the un-ironed nature of the shorts. I was going to iron them but

a) I couldn't find the iron (I am living in a new house and am yet to suss out where they keep the little bugger)

b) I knew they would crease again as soon as I sat down so I saved the hassle

I love how a bow can be oh so feminine, but also add that slightly masculine touch to an outfit. Who knew a bowtie could be so contradictory?

I femmed this little ensemble up a little with my fabulous new wooden heeled platforms and the ever so bright Centrifuschia lipstick by Limecrime (one of my favourite colours by Limecrime). The shorts were a bit of a snap decision. It is starting to heat up in Perth, so I can get away with bearing my legs both day and night without freezing... although I think their white luminescent glow may be scaring people away. It was a toss up between bearing my pasty legs, or enjoying the warmth and the ability to wear shorts. Oh I can't wait for the warmer months!

Well what a cruisy day. A bit of uni here and there, a beauticians appointment, and a sneaky wine (and arancini mmmm) with a friend at the Cheeky Sparrow. There is nothing like a comfy outfit to accompany a cruisy day.

This jumper is possibly one of the greatest pieces of clothing I own - it goes with everything and it is that perfect transitional piece. When I first purchased it I did have a mini freak out, but I have definitely paid it off with the number of times I have worn it! I also have an undying love for this maxi skirt. It makes me look at least a little bit taller (so everyone kept telling me), and it has so much movement to it. Slouchy clothes for a lazy day. sigh.

Black and Lace Should Never Be Seen Without Some Stripes Inbetween

Today marked the beginning of my second last week of uni... EVER (unless I decide to go back and do a postgrad - the thought actually makes me shudder at the moment).

I made a list (in class) of all of the things I will miss about uni.

It goes a little something like this:

- Celebrating skipping class with a pint at the tav

- Celebrating the fact I have an hour between classes with a pint at the tav

- Stumbling across free sausage sizzles, with awesome tunes playing, when I am starving and poor

- George's Kebabs whilst sitting at the tav

- Having intelligent yet funny conversations with a) my ridiculously good looking tutors b) young, equal minded tutors

- Not feeling bad for sleeping in until 11am and not getting out of bed until the pm's (doing work in bed though of course!)

- Having an excuse for eating mi goreng for 3 meals of the day

- Skipping a lecture to go to the beach

The rest of the uni experience I think I can do without.

p.s. I am eating at Nobu tonight - I am so excited, and equally as happy that Perth has such a fine eatery!

PFF 2011 Student Runway

I don't think I have

a) ever been so excited about a runway show in my entire life

b) ever been so inspired by a runway show

than what I was about the Perth Fashion Festival's Student Runway show.

The entire room was buzzing, and there wasn't a spare seat to be seen.

The show began with the three designers who have been working at the carton all year.

I must say, Celine Bridge totally blew me away... I almost climbed onto the runway to pack her in my bag and take her home to be my personal designer.

Alissa Gomez and Jeromy Lim also did a stellar job with collections featuring patchwork, ruffles and fur galore!

Then it was onto the student submissions.

I never, ever expected what I saw. The creativity and the craftsmenship of the student's designs was incredible. It was great to see some of my friend's designs making their way down the runway too! Across the 5 categories (women's ready to wear, contemporary evening, eco-friendly, men's wear and costume couture) there were some definite stand out pieces. It will be interesting to see who the luck y three are that get to occupy the carton next.

Colour Me Pretty

I accidentally bought these shorts and I swear they have become my favourite item in my wardrobe.

When I say "accidentally" bought, I mean I was purchasing something else, looked at the very lovely sales attendant and swooned over these shorts which she happened to be wearing. Being so lovely, she thought she would double check the price for me (a mere $44.00!). Before I knew it, they were in my bag with my initial purchase, and my card was in her hands.

Just goes to show what good customer service can do for you... and that I cannot resist gorgeous little velvety shorts.

It has been cold and rainy in Perth for a good few days, which is quite bittersweet.

Positive: I got to rep my red jacket just once more before it will go away for the spring/summer seasons

Negative: I just want to go out in a top and shorts and not freeze

Positive: At least I am stuck inside doing uni work while it is cold and rainy

Negative: I just want to go to the beach!

I managed to take these photos just before I began to look like a wheezing, couching, sniffling ghost.

Maybe the black leg bone leggings were a bit of a metaphor for me looking like the dead/feeling like the dead.

Who gets sick over the weekend? I mean really, what sort of a cruel joke is that?

I still braved the PFF Designer Capsule, and managed to perform with my band this weekend (although I was a little husky and nasally)... but I did have to skip the Billie & Rose runway show for fear of collapsing in front of masses of people. At least being sick has forced me to spend some time on those damn pesky assignments... just 3 more weeks and I am free to do what I want, any old time!

PFF Designer Capsule 1 - Part 2

The next 2 designers to showcase at the PFF Designer Capsule were Lisa Marjonovich and Paper Skye.

Lisa Marjanovich was big on drapes, warm muted hues and sheer. I can't say I was too fond of the super wet look hair when the models first walked out, but after looking at the images a few times over I can somewhat appreciate the style. A completely different feminine to the Little Gracie collection that preceded it, Lisa's collection was effortless and modestly sexy.

Finally, Paper Skye took to the runway. The entire collection consisted of sheer white tops/dresses layered over white cropped bustiers and knickers. It was very minimal and clean, a perfect way to cleanse the palette after the colour and volume injections that were Little Gracie and Lisa Marjanovich.

PFF Designer Capsule 1 - Little Gracie

Perth's fashion conscious were out in droves for Perth Fashion Festival's Designer Capsule 1.

The first label off the rank in the three label show, was Little Gracie by Ebony Harding.

Anybody who knows me well enough knows I have an undying love for Little Gracie. That in itself meant that the show was going to be amazing.

The insanely beautiful Hackett Hall at the WA Museum was transformed into a parisian palace, and lined with flowers as far as the eye could see. Little Gracie kicked off the show with an adorable video (to some of the greatest old school tunes) of frills, dresses, tea and flowers.

It would be wrong to say that the models 'stomped' down the runway - because again we were treated to some fabulous, soothing 70's pop as the models 'fluttered' down the runway.

True to form, Little Gracie's runway show was full of her signature pastels, ruffles and frills. There was a definite 70's vibe to the collection, not to mention a very feminine silhouette. I am fairly certain I annoyed the hell out of everyone around me with my all of my "oohs" "aahs" and "I need that"s. I don't really care because I was in awe.

Words cannot explain how excited I get when I wake up and realise that it is work day. It sounds so odd to say that, but by golly I love my job. I love the feel of the office, I love the attitudes, I love the dress code (as you can see the dress code is pretty much "anything goes") I love the products and I love my assigned tasks. Life is pretty great really!

I have had a tough few days though, as I have made some major decisions in my life.

It finally dawned on me that I only have 4 more weeks left of uni... EVER. That meant reorganising and re-evaluating my current situation to better set myself up for my graduation.

So what are these major decisions I speak of? Well, I quit dance teaching.

It is a sad but wise move in my eyes. Those hours are now dedicated to focussing on my final assessments, working harder at the business I am going to begin full time with in a few weeks, bigger and better blogging, as well as some well deserved 'me' time. It shocked a lot of people, including myself, that I would give up dance teaching, but in reality my career is taking me in a totally different direction. The first step in that direction is full time work in PR/Marketing/Management for an organic beauty company.

I am so excited for this new chapter in my life - these 4 weeks couldn't come to a close soon enough. Mixed in with the excitement there are of course a bundle of nerves, but who wouldn't be nervous right?

p.s. keep an eye out for some PFF posts on here... I have tried to squeeze what I can into my hectic schedule!

So much for the spring weather!

The last three days have been full of rain, wind and even a little bit of thunder. Just when I thought I could start putting the heavy woollens away!

At least I got the chance to wear my $4 bargain cardigan/cape/poncho/jacket just one last time.

The rain is the perfect assignment writing back drop too - there is nothing worse than being stuck indoors on a balmy summers day writing assignments about organisational change and the marketing strategies used by Nandos instead of eating watermelon at the beach.

I think I died and went to fashion heaven.

Kelsey Genna is the brainchild of 19 year old New Zealander, Kelsey. With such fine craftmenship and elegant design, you would barely believe that Kelsey Genna is still what could be considered a 'baby brand'. Unbelievably, the label was only founded in 2010. I can see very good things happening for this brand in the future...

This is definitely a brand to keep my eye on and aim to fill my wardrobe with!

Colour isn't something I often shy away from. In fact, I tend to avoid black as much as possible.

You never feel happier and more fun than when you are drowned in colour.

Both this blouse and bag get so much attention wherever I go. I am not sure if it is the colours or the small details, but I guess it is hard to ignore bright orange and bright yellow.

I seem to be gravitating towards yellows and oranges more than any other colour of late - do certain colours grab your attention more so than others?

So here I am, posting exactly 2 months after my last post.

What made me stop posting? Well I guess it was all a combination of it being my final semester of uni, my increased presence at work, my move and dedicating a lot of time to my new found sources of happiness - my new friends and my new boyfriend *eeeek!*

What made me start posting again?

In the last week I have had 3 separate references to my blog and people missing seeing it updated (aw shucks - thanks guys!), and I guess I really do miss it!

So, here is my pledge to you my solemn readers...

I, Monique Chloe shall update my blog on a regular basis, with interesting and cool content, from here on in.

To kick things off, these are just a few of the things I have been doing in the last 2 months...

I have attended a buttload of birthdays, namely 21sts (including my own)

I have performed my heart out in band and at dancing

I have hung with best crowd of friends

I have followed my brother and some of my besties' travels through out Europe, eagerly anticipating the 28th of December when I can join them...

and I have been given the opportunity to move to Melbourne with the most fabulous graduate job a girl like me could ask for.

I went to visit my friend at The Foxhunt in Northbridge yesterday and the first thing he pointed out to me was how very "Snow White like" my outfit was. After pulling up a picture of Snow White, I realised that yes, I did look very much like the fictional princess. So, I have been a bad person.

I said that I would be more active on here, and I went back on my promise. My apologies!

I have so many excuses, but I won't bore you with them all... well maybe one.

I have busily been organising the moving of houses, packing and trying to sort what I actually want to keep and what I can do without. My house currently resembles a rubbish tip, I am moving to Leederville and my brothers room is eerily empty.

My brother is off to study in Copenhagen for a whole year on Tuesday, and I didn't realise exactly how much I would actually miss him until I walked into his massively empty room the other day - It doesn't help that the weather has been grey and gloomy for the past three days.

I tried to cheer up the mood a little with my funnest, brightest tights I own. I tried so hard to steer away from the galaxy leggings (probably one of the most well known BlackMilk prints), but on my second visit to the shopping cart I gave in and purchased them. They now sit happily between my Leg Bones tights and my bright red coat.

It was only today that I really sat back and thought about the accessories, shoes and clothing that I own.

I came to the realisation that "plain" and "staple" aren't words I think about often when shopping... I tend to think "different" and "quirky" and "out-there". I find it hard to find a dead set, well and truly, plain top in my wardrobe.

It just so happened that when I checked the mail today, a lovely little package, that catered exactly to my "different" and "quirky" train of thought, was waiting for me from Tu. Tu is nestled right in on William St in Northbridge and stocks up and coming Australian designers, as well as their own label created by owner Annie Nie Chong - the lady that designed my gorgeous new little mouse purse! What a coincidence that something so interesting should arrive on my doorstep the very day I was assessing the nature of my wardrobe!

Not only is the purse amazingly quirky (Me all over), it is also made lovingly in fair trade conditions. It makes me warm and fuzzy to know that something so cute has been made in an ethical manner... it also makes me want to give Annie a big hug for going about the manufacturing in the right way! I already have so many ideas in my mind of what I am going to pair this baby with... and you can be sure it isn't plain or staple!

I don't think I have ever bought so much makeup in one haul.
I got a little excited over the RMS Beauty makeup range on Bathing Beauty that I just couldn't narrow down the field to any less than 4 pots.

RMS Beauty is an organic line of makeup created by celebrity makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift. Miranda Kerr swears by it, so I thought I would give the stuff a shot.

This is what I ended up with...

RMS Beauty Lip Shine in "Bloom"
This has to be the most gorgeous, subtle lip gloss pot I own. It is a sweet shade of transparent pink that doesn't leave the lips overly glossy and shiny (think teenage candy pink). So effortlessly gorgeous. This colour was actually made especially for Gisele.

RMS Beauty Living Luminizer
I never really believed in luminizers until I owned this one. Just the tiniest dab on the cheek bones and brow bones defines my face and makes me glow!

I also never really owned a good concealer. I hated the idea of clogging up my already clogged pores with chemically laden products just to cover some redness. I decided to challenge my assumptions, and purchased the RMS version of concealer. It is all organic (so I guess it isn't really testing all my previous assumptions as this is actually good for your skin), so instead of clogging up pores, it is actually giving my skin essential nutrients while providing great coverage... what more could a girl ask for?!

Industry preview night was last Thursday (and my awesome schedule meant that I couldn't make it) and tomorrow marks the first day of trade.

My sincere apologies for the blogging hiatus. I hid away for a little. It was a mixture of the usual excuses (so much work, uni and dancing etc etc) but there are some new ones in there too.

Since I last put typography to computer screen, I have informally (or maybe formally I am not too sure) joined a band. Yes, a band. I haven't sung with confidence since I was 8, and here I am doing back up vocals for a band. It isn't lead singing, but it is still just as nerve wracking, people can hear me and judge me eeek! Wish me luck!

I have also managed to get myself tonsillitis for the 15 millionth time this year - and that is no exaggeration*. So for the last 4-5 days I have been dying a slow and painful tonsil related death while trying to hold my life together. It all sounds rather dramatic, but it really is hard trying to continue on with my normal and hectic life when I have golfballs of fire lodged in my throat.

My new(ish) ASOS cape is the perfect "I am sick" outfit. Rather blanket like, it is extremely warm and snuggly, exactly how I want to be when I am sick. I got my fair share of funny stares, silly remarks and sniggers, but I rate my blanketcoat over the sniggerers boardshorts and thongs.

What am I doing blogging at such an absurd hour? That is what happens when you try and fit so much into your life, things get done at absurd times otherwise they don't get done at all! I only just finished cleaning my room and doing the dishes - who does that at 11.30pm? Maybe it is normal and I haven't yet realised.

I finally got some time in to take some quick snapshots of an outfit that I wore to work on Wednesday.

Before work I usually stop at the cafe strip down the road from home to collect something for lunch, check to see if our products have featured in any magazines and to pop in and practice all my important french on the french lady that owns the patisserie (At least I know the basics to get me through spending some time in France - can I please have one flat white and one chocolate croissant). At each of these 3 pitstops, I ended up in conversation with 3 complete strangers.

I was stopped on 3 occasions just so they could compliment my hat!

It is a gem that I picked up at one of the overpriced vintage stores on Beaufort St in Mt Lawley sometime last year. I don't generally buy much from vintage stores - mainly due to them being rather pricey - but when I saw this baby, I had to have it! There was something about the colour combination that jumped at me... and the fact that it was covered in flowers. I haven't worn it out of the house before today (I don't know why?!) but I am hoping to get a lot more wear out of it!

Shorts, especially those of a high waisted nature, have been my best friend for a long while now. They are so comfortable, practical and flattering. Surprisingly, my shoes are just as comfortable!

Comfort is exactly what I have needed these last few days - life has knocked me down and left me dizzy and sick in bed. Fabulous.

Depending on what is wrong with me, I could be over and out for a few days... stay tuned!

I will admit, this is a bit of an odd blog post.

For anyone who reads this blog more than once every few months, you would know that I went back home to Bunbury for a few days last week. It is the first time I have gone home, just to relax, in a very very long time.

One of the many things that I love about home is my dad's vegetable garden.

It is most definitely his pride and joy. It's no wonder why - look at the size of those chillies! Most of the produce that comes from his garden is giant. It makes me wonder what is in our beach sand soil that makes it grow so well!

Whenever we see dad we get a bundle of giant vegetables to take home. There is nothing better than homegrown, oversized vegetables to remind me of home.

I haven't been this cold in way too long and I have forgotten how to dress warmly.

I blame it partially on the fact that I didn't pack warm clothes as I expected it to be at least 26 degrees, and not a mere 22 degrees.

At least it has given me the perfect opportunity to do a lot of sitting on the couch, under a blanket, with hot drinks and TV show repeats. Oh and to do assignments. Yuck.

On another note, these pants are my new favourite piece of clothing. I am a little bit over (but not completely over) jeans, and chinos are perfect for changing it up a little bit. Now to buy a brightly coloured pair...

Joveeba has been one of my favourite brands since I can remember.

Well, since I was about 15.

The days that Alison Cotton (such a fitting name for a designer don't you think?!) would bring her samples into the little boutique that I worked in were my favourite days of the year (closely followed by delivery days).

I ended up purchasing 2 of her very early designs - 2 simple little silk dresses. The 2 little silk dresses that still hang in my wardrobe, the 2 little silk dresses that I will never ever give up and the 2 little silk dresses that started my love affair with this Perth born label.

I wasn't fortunate enough to add any more to my Joveeba collection until last year - so many collections later. Now I have 3 gorgeous little silk dresses hanging in my wardrobe, 3 that I will never give up.

Hopefully I will be fortunate enough to further add to my collection from the current Winter range.

The winter range is still so distinctly loose, drapey and comfortable - perfect for the chillier months!

Fur play to you

Finally we copped a rainy autumn day in Perth.

Finally I could bust out my fur without overheating.

It was so soothing to listen to the rain from inside the office all day... and in the car on the way home, and on the bus to the train station, and on the train back to Bunbury and while I was lying in my childhood bed.

I am home in Bunbury for around 4-5 days and it is the first time I have been home since Christmas. There really is no place like home.

I spent the day visiting family, playing with the dog at the beach, watching the rain and re-exploring the town centre that has changed vastly since the last time I was home.

I hope everyone had an absolutely fantastic Easter/ANZAC day extra long weekend!

It seems that the 5 days flew by and absolutely nothing I had been meaning to do actually got done.

At least I finally managed to get away from my apartment and forget about all those things I was supposed to get done.

Easter Sunday was spent with my mum's extended Mauritian family in their beachside home.

I always forget how much I miss this part of the family, and as soon as we get together I realise how much I am going to miss them when I have to go home.

No matter how long it has been since we last saw each other, the conversation flows as freely as the beer and wine does.

There was an over abundance of people, chat, laughter, alcohol, seafood, curry and of course chocolate.

I wouldn't have had it any other way.

I hope there is another Easter next week.

Choc Cross Thursday

I have never been more proud of my baking prowess (I use that term loosely) than I was today.

Today I made my very own choc cross buns. Yes they are rather "rustic" looking, yes I had to make do with less yeast than I should have had, and yes they are quite jumbo - but I don't care, I am so proud! I should have been studying, but the Easter spirit was too much for me and I caved into baking!

I used a recipe that I found on Karen Cheng's blog and it was surprisingly simple!

Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Buns

10g yeast

150ml warm water

45g caster sugar

275g plain flour

1 egg

1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

50g butter, softened

70g of chocolate chips

Flour Paste

45g plain flour

15g castor sugar

45ml water

Syrup Glaze

15g caster sugar

15ml of water

1. Stir yeast and water in a large bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes while you get the rest of your ingredients together.

2. Add flour, sugar, cinnamon, egg and butter (make sure it’s soft!).

3. Mix very well for 3 minutes with a spoon. Add chocolate chips and then give it another good stir for 2 minutes.

4. Cover the bowl with cling wrap, and leave the bowl in a warm place for 1- 2 hours. (I like to make it just after breakfast, before I drop my kids off at school.)

5. Preheat the oven to 170C.

6. The dough should have doubled in size. Knock back the dough with the spoon, and transfer onto a well floured surface. The dough is pretty sticky and soft, not like pizza or bread dough! I rolled them about and cut them up with a spatula and a spoon, I didn’t actually touch the dough with my fingers.

7. Divide the dough into 16 portions, lightly roll each of them into a small ball, and place the balls onto a lined baking tray. You’re supposed to place them 5cms apart, but I just put them 3cm apart.

8. You’re supposed to wait 1 hour for the balls to rise slightly, but I just waited 15 minutes.

9. Flour paste - Mix the flour, sugar and water in a small ball. Spoon the mixture into a piping bag – I use a plastic zip lock bag, and snip the end off one corner.

10. Pipe crosses across the buns.

11. Bake the buns for 25 minutes, until the tops are nice and dark golden colour. The darker the better!

12. Syrup Glaze - Lightly boil sugar and water in a small saucepan.

13. Once the buns come out of the oven, brush the tops with the glaze.

14. Best eaten hot!

My brother must despise when I receive packages - I squeal the house down in excitement. He even left this one in my room so I would find it, and squeal, out of earshot.

The ASOS winter sale has been my saviour - or maybe it will be my demise.

Now to eagerly await the other 3 packages I am expecting from them!

Friend of Mine

It has been a while since I put typed letters to computer screen...

I must apologise for my lack of blogging lately. On top of too many uni assignments, dancing overload and extra work hours, I also managed to fall quite ill.

Today is the first day in the last 4 days that I have started to see the light (and regain a voice, throat and appetite).

It is all upwards from here.

I promise I will not be a bad blogger from now on in.

Now that the apologies are out of the way, I just wanted to share these images.

They come from Friend Of Mine's Spring 2011 lookbook.

I have fallen in love with Friend of Mine. Their current collection is so effortless and sleek, and the Spring collection, Smokey Rolls, once again captures this aesthetic. Clean lines, clean patterns and clean colours.

The spring collection is inspired by 1970's vintage - clearly visible in the bohemian paisley prints and "ABBA-esque" jumpsuits. My oh my, what a wonderful collection you have put forth Friend of Mine.

I feel ever so autumny and 70's in this outfit.

The crochet, burnt orange, and vintage cut of the shorts all have a distinct vibe to them. The jumper, shorts and shoes are all my new wardrobe favourites, and it breaks my heart that I can't wear them all day, every day.

I have a thing for orange of late. After a careful stocktake, I realised that I have purchased these orange shorts, a gorgeous orange Little Gracie dress, and had an orange manicure and pedicure... all in the last month. It is the colour de jour.

Can you blame me though?

Now that the wintery weather has finally made an appearance in Perth, I am getting even more excited about winter fashion.

Local Perth boutique, Manikinn, have just launched their new range of jumpers - they are cute, quirky and definitely a little bit different. I can definitely see myself traipsing the uni campus, hot drink in hand, in one of these snuggly jumpers!

Orange tips

Anyone would think that the people of Perth haven't seen rain in months... wait, we haven't.

Today was the first day of rain that Perth has seen in months, and the first day under 30 degrees too - honestly. You should have seen the reaction of the general public (I will admit, this includes me), we were in a frenzy! People tweeting all over the place, facebook status updates, jumpers on the street, the smell of soup wafting out of apartments and god help me, umbrellas.

My way of celebrating the rain was to indulge in a little manicure, pedicure and facial (after laying in bed for hours watching the rain).

I don't normally get to do this sort of thing, so today was super special. I almost fell asleep during the facial, and my feet and hands have never felt so gorgeous.

I got so excited about busting out my boots for the cooler weather, that I totally forgot I was getting a pedicure. Boots + pedicure = mess.

Thankfully the beauticians had some fabulous little fold up thong things to get me through the city and to the car. What a spectacle I must have been with my new bright orange nails and makeshift boat thongs. They made me laugh so hard, I just had to share!

Stay calm, be cool

This morning I finally had to get back into the swing of things.

I must admit, I am struggling a bit. Problem is, I don't know where to cut down.

When I am so busy, the simple things bring so much relief and happiness.

Small things like visiting the river briefly before leaving for work, or feeling my heart miss a beat when I ran into the most gorgeous French man whilst picking up some magazines for work, or even purchasing a fur coat online in preparation for Europe at the very end of this year.

This morning the river was as delightful as can be. The water was so still, and the sun was so bright and warm. As much as I am pining for a cool, rainy day, so I can snuggle up in bed and watch the wet outside, I will miss this calmness and the warmth of the sun. So one last visit to the river was in order before we the wet weather is due to set in.

It's knit winter just yet

It seems ludicrous that I can even be thinking about getting ready for winter.

We are already well and truly into the autumn months, and we still are yet to see a day below 30 degrees. Perth has recorded something like 28 consecutive days above 30 degrees for the month of March.

Finally we should see some relief this Thursday when the skies are forecast to open up and drop some rain - but don't be fooled into thinking that the temperature will be below 25 degrees!

Despite the unusual heat, I have been buying up big in preparation for winter. First it was a chunky mens Antipodium knit, then it was a gorgeous fur vest. ASOS was the latest to satisfy my winter clothing craving with their chunky knits, knit shorts and knit dresses.

Overtired, overworked, oversized

Lately I feel as though things have been falling by the wayside. I forget what day it is, forget who I need to speak to and forget what needs to be done. The true signs of an overly worked girl.
I think this calls for a day off work and a day of uni next week.

Maybe then I can catch up with all that work, uni work, sleep, and travel planning.

Today I planned to study my little toosh off, but things changed and I ended up catching up with my mum and uncle, drank lots of coffee and napped for a few hours. Now that it is Sunday afternoon, I think I should at least make an attempt at the uni work.

Ellery Spring/Summer 11 Runway Show

Previously I posted about my evening at the Ellery Runway show. Now I can finally post some images of the runway show itself (they finally finished uploading!).

Lisa Scaffidi, the mayor of Perth, was invited to open the show. Lisa is such a gracious lady, with an amazing vision for Perth - namely the fashion and music cultures of the city. Myself, L and Karamea had a wonderful little chat to her before she was ushered off to the microphone. It was so lovely to discuss the opportunities for Perth with someone who actually cares and who can make a difference.

A short speech later, the lights were dropped, and the base heavy music started blaring. Oh the excitement!

Out came the models, hair in a low haphazard ponytail and hands covered in egyptian-like symbols. They walked the life out of that runway, an amazing feat considering the height of those amazing signature Ellery heels.

I have never loved a collection more for their colour palette. I was so happy to see white featured heavily in Ellery's latest collection. Black seems to be everyone's 'safe colour', and while I understand a collection totally devoid of any black is nearly impossible, it is so nice to see black taking a back seat and letting the other colours shine.

Each and every one of the white dominated outfits were so fresh and polished.

The second 'trend' to hit the runway was ombre. One of my favourite pieces of the night would have to be the ombre flares... and the ombre dress... and everything...

Finally, black made an appearance (how could it not?!). Although I can be quoted as saying "it is nice to see black taking a back seat", I absolutely would not have minded if there were more of these black outfits on the runway. The cut, the shape, the movement - it was all so perfect. Maybe that is the key to a collection - having only a small number of black pieces, but absolutely nailing them. Black doesn't have to be safe, same-samey and boring, it can be so exciting!

Bronze and tan, along with white, featured heavily in the collection. Oh the bronze... it was simply breathtaking. I could not take my eyes off the cropped leather top and the sheer maxi skirt. Again, everything looked so neat and polished, it was hard not to lust after everything that was coming down that runway.

Ellery's Spring/Summer 11 collection is definitely a winner.

Kym has done a magnificent job on the collection - I could happily wear each and every piece (even the sunglasses) that was showcased.

Pre Ellery Spring/Summer 11 Show

Finally, the most exciting event of my year so far arrived. Tuesday evening was the Ellery Spring/Summer 11 Runway show. I attended the show with a friend, and fellow fashion lover, Ebony (the founder of Unwrapped: The Market Place).

Organised by the Perth Fashion Festival, the showcase was held in the gorgeous one40William building in Perth City. Until Tuesday evening, I was under the impression that one40William was merely a shopping hub and a space full of offices. Well I was wrong! After being taken upstairs in what could be described as either a freight lift, or a lift undergoing some sort of renovation (hey, it did add to the feel of the space we were in), we entered a large industrial looking space bustling with people.

When I say industrial, it was so much so that the air-conditioning was not functioning - not the best when the night is already a balmy one. I ended up having to top knot my hair because hair stuck to your back and face is not an attractive look. Although it was hot, there was certainly a superb effort put in to keep the guests happy.

There were waiters roaming with platters of berry martini's, cider with a hint of passionfruit and Moet; platters with oyster and gaspaccio shots and platters with seared scallops topped with quails eggs. I don't think I even got to see half of the platters as I was too busy mingling and meeting.

The first familiar face I ran into (apart from spying Karen Cheng and PFF founder Mariella Hanrahan-Harvey in the lobby) was the lovely Kim from Blonde Suburbia. I ended up spending a good portion of the night chatting to her and watching her work her magic around the room.

After wandering the room, I caught up with even more familiar faces - L from Peanut Moonbeam Knickers, Bonnie from Bonnie Friday and Ebony Harding from Little Gracie. I met some more wonderful bloggers including Farrah from Distrikmode, Bec from Fall Victim to Fashion, Karamea from Perth Street Fashion and Candace from Perth Fashionista. I also finally met Chow from Heart and Bleeker.

We mingled and mingled and mingled for what seemed like forever. I love mingling, especially when there are amazing food and drinks going around, so the news that the show had been delayed really didn't bother me in the slightest. What did bother me about standing and chatting was my shoes. They are not standing shoes. I ended up almost passing out from the combination of the heat, the pain in my feet and the fact that I had only had a bowl of pasta in the middle of the day. A seat outside and a break from my shoes fixed that problem quick smart. I was determined to feel better as there was no way I was going to miss the show!

After a quick break, we were back up again and filing in to our seats for the show.

On our way to our seats we spotted Lisa Scaffidi, mayor of Perth. We stopped to have a chat and a photo with her. I must say, she is one of the most gracious women I have met. I could have spoken to her for hours about Perth and what she is doing for the "arts" culture here. Alas, we didn't have the hours available.

Finally we took our seats and waited for the show to start.

As Kim, Ebony and I were walking out of the venue, we were fortunate enough to catch the media interview that special guest, Lara Bingle, and Kym Ellery did together. Naturally, we jumped in there with our cameras and got our own shots. I realised how much I would hate to be a professional photographer when Kim experienced a little bit of photographer rage from one of the photographers trying to get a photo.
